The Awakening of Suzan - Chapter 2
These events occur immediately after the end of chapter 1.
Chapter 2 - The Supermarket
The feeling of relief and happiness completely overwhelmed me as I left the InnovaMente building. It had been a long, emotionally draining, but incredibly rewarding day. I was hired, finally starting my career at one of the best digital marketing agencies in the country. It was exactly 2:10 p.m. on September 29th, and with the afternoon free, I decided to take the opportunity to do the month's shopping. My pantry was practically empty, and tomorrow would be a day too important for me to worry about. Since the supermarket was a few minutes from home, I decided that an Uber would be the quickest and most practical option.
I called the car through the app, and soon a driver accepted the race, and I was standing in front of the building, feeling the light afternoon breeze from São Paulo. With my mind a little bit quieter, the thoughts about the daydreams I had during the interview finally began to dissipate. I felt a momentary peace. "Now it's just about focusing on the practical things", I thought. The Uber came quickly, and I got into the car with the same feeling of excitement that had accompanied me since I left InovaMente.
The journey was short, about 15 minutes. My destination was Sugar Bread in Mariana Village, a well-organized supermarket with a wide variety of products that I knew would serve me well. It was about 2:30 p.m. when we arrived. I was a bit mentally tired, but also glad that I was enjoying the rest of the day in a useful way. All I could think about was making sure that my refrigerator was full and that I was ready to start my new job without any logistical worries.
As soon as the Uber pulled up in front of the supermarket, I thanked the driver, and in a hurried gesture, I opened the door to get out. It was at that moment that I felt a sudden pull. My skirt - the same skirt that seemed to have already caused me so much trouble - had gotten stuck in the car door. Before I could process what was happening, I heard the terrible sound of fabric tearing. The driver, without realizing it, had already started to leave with the car, and the force of the start tore my skirt completely off my body, leaving me dressed only in my white shirt, no bra, having the black skirt, and... my underwear that was still a bit wet.
I was paralyzed for a few seconds. I looked down in disbelief at what had just happened. My skirt, the last vestige of my dignity that day, had disappeared with the car. I was standing there in front of the Sugar Loaf in the middle of a sunny afternoon, wearing only a social shirt under my suit, and, of course, white cotton panties. The worst part was that the suit only partially covered my body. It was straight, and it didn't have the length to properly cover my panties. Every move I made felt like I was exposing part of my buttocks.
My heart skipped a beat. Those ridiculous thoughts that once seemed like mere uncomfortable fantasies were now materializing into a kind of real nightmare. What would I do? Going home was a possibility, but I was afraid that the same driver would end up accepting my ride home, what would I tell the Uber driver? He would know that I was shirtless, besides finding out my address when he drove me home. And besides, I really needed to do those shopping. My pantry was practically empty, and the next day would be too important to waste time on more setbacks.
I took a deep breath and tried to reason. "You can do this, Suzan", I said to myself. "Just go in, be quick, take what you need and leave without attracting attention". But the truth was, in my present condition, it would be impossible not to attract attention.
The situation was surreal. I knew that at any moment someone would notice what was going on. Maybe with the suit partially covering, people would just think that I was wearing a very short skirt. Maybe I could avoid more attentive looks, or maybe... it was obvious that I was in my underwear. Just the thought made me feel an intense heat on my face, and the shame went up my body like an overwhelming wave.
Still, I decided to move on. I walked into the grocery store with quick steps, trying to maintain a normal posture. The cold air conditioner pounded on my exposed legs, reminding me every second of my vulnerability. I took a cart and drove down the fruit aisle, keeping my focus on the task of stocking my pantry. "I just need to be fast", I repeated in my mind.
For the first few minutes, my hands trembled slightly as I picked up apples and bananas. I looked around constantly, trying to identify if anyone had noticed my situation. Every time I bent down to pick something up from the lower shelves, the suit would rise a little higher, revealing even more of my underwear, leaving me in an incredibly uncomfortable position. Every movement reminded me that somehow I was practically naked from the waist down.
The supermarket was reasonably crowded for a weekday afternoon, and that only added to my anxiety. My imagination, which had betrayed me so many times before, now seemed to be playing cruel games with me. I pictured myself walking down the aisles, picking up products and trying to act normally, while, in my head, the people around me were staring and whispering. I pictured myself completely exposed, with critical and curious looks turned toward me. It was as if I was living a baffling fantasy, but now it was real, and it frightened me.
With each step, the suit would sway a little bit, lifting up just enough to reveal the curves of my buttocks, and the feeling of being partially clothed, with only a pair of panties and a blazer that barely covered the bare necessities, made it all even more surreal, and the idea that anyone there could perceive my situation at any moment panicked me, but at the same time, there was something strangely liberating about it all, as if, all of a sudden, I was dealing with that balance between control and vulnerability in a naked, raw way -- literally.
I tried to focus on what I needed to buy - rice, beans, pasta, meat - but every time I stooped or stretched to pick something up, I felt I was exposing more than I should have.
I looked at the clock on my wrist and saw that it had only been 30 minutes since I'd walked into the grocery store, and the time seemed to be dragging on, and my anxiety was only increasing. "Okay, I'm focusing on what's left", I thought to myself as I pushed the cart toward the butcher's, and I still needed to make sure I had enough meat for the month. With my mind desperately trying to distract from the fact that I was basically without a skirt and only in my underwear, I walked to the meat counter, hoping to be quick.
Suddenly, a message echoed from the supermarket's loudspeakers that made me freeze: "Attention, customers! Lightning promotion in the butcher's sector! Discount on meat for a limited time!" My heart almost stopped. Lightning promotion? Just now? I looked at the butcher's counter and saw a crowd of people moving towards that section as if attracted by a magnet. "Great", I thought, ironically, as I saw the number of people increasing rapidly. Now I would have to face a giant queue.
I sighed, trying to muster up as much courage as possible to deal with the situation. I didn't want to go to the slaughterhouse with all those people around me, but I needed to take advantage of the promotion. The supermarket wasn't cheap, and the idea of getting good deals was too tempting to ignore, even in my circumstances. So I walked hesitantly into the line. When I arrived, I realized that there were at least 50 people in front of me. The line stretched down the hall, and I tried to count people, but my mind was so distracted that I lost count several times. I was too nervous to pay attention to numbers.
I knew I wasn't dressed appropriately to face a crowd. Every time I moved, the blazer seemed to cover less. The black cloth was fair, and I felt that if I moved the wrong way, people around me would notice that I was essentially without a skirt. "How did this happen to me?" I thought, as I adjusted the suit to try to cover my legs a little more. I kept the cart in front of me as a kind of shield, but what I knew only disguised it to a certain extent. Every minute that passed, it seemed that my body was denouncing my situation even more.
Five minutes passed, and only 10 people had been answered. I felt despair growing inside me. The people in the line were impatient, and I could feel some curious looks turning to me. Whispers began to come, and even though I couldn't hear what they were saying, I knew they were talking about me. My face warmed, and I did my best to maintain a neutral expression. "Be discreet", I repeated to myself. "No one needs to notice that you're like this".
As I waited, I started adjusting my blazer and shirt, trying to cover as much of my body as possible, but every time I moved the fabric, it seemed to leave something more exposed, a little movement to adjust the blazer, and I could feel the fabric coming up, revealing more of the panties, and the worst part was that, with certain movements, I could feel the edge of the panties coming out, and as I lowered my head discreetly, I realized that part of my buttocks was, in fact, exposed.
The panic took hold of me, but at the same time, a strange feeling began to emerge. My mind, always rational and controlled, was betraying me. Suddenly, I began to feel a strange dampness again in the lining of my panties. "This can't be happening", I thought, in complete disbelief. I tried to ignore it, denying to myself that I could be in any way excited about this situation. It was ridiculous, impossible. But my body seemed to be reacting in a completely opposite way to my mind control. Every time I adjusted my clothes, the feeling of vulnerability seemed to increase, and with it came an intense feeling, something I didn't want to admit.
I looked around, looking for a distraction, anything that could get me out of that state, but the whispers kept coming, and I didn't know exactly what people were saying, but their quiet looks and laughter made me imagine the worst. "They're getting it. They're getting it". That thought hammered my head. I tried to keep calm, but the moisture between my legs was getting more noticeable, and the discomfort of not being able to control my own body was making me even more anxious.
Time seemed to drag on, my mind oscillating between shame and something darker, a repressed excitement that I could barely explain to myself, and I felt as if I was torn between two versions of myself: one who desperately wanted to hide, shrink, get out of there as quickly as possible, and the other who somehow felt a strange pleasure in it, as if the exposure was a challenge I had to face.
A few more people were served, and the line moved slowly. With each step, I could feel the blazer moving up a little more, and I knew that if I continued like this, it wouldn't take long for someone to fully understand my situation. The fear took hold of me, but strangely, mixed with it was a dark desire to test my own limits. "Why am I like this?" I asked myself, but there was no answer. The only thing I knew was that I had to go on, face it, and get out of there with the purchases made.
Those five minutes of waiting in the butcher's line seemed endless, and the fact that only 10 people had been served only added to my frustration. "It's going to take forever", I thought, trying to control my breath. The line moved slowly, but with each step, I felt that I was closer to being completely exposed.
I continued to straighten myself constantly, desperately trying to maintain control of the situation, but it seemed that every movement only made things worse. The tight blazer didn't help much, and I could feel the edge of my panties pop up every time the fabric moved. My heart was racing, and the heat was rising through my body as I tried to disguise the growing panic. I was still in line, and another 10 minutes had passed. I looked at my watch again. It was now about 45 minutes since I had entered the supermarket, and the line seemed to move so slowly that I could hardly believe it.
More people were served, but there were still many missing. The line seemed endless, and I didn't know if I could stand it any longer there. I just wanted to get out of there, but at the same time I knew that I needed the meat for the month. The dilemma consumed me, and the feeling of being almost naked in the middle of so many people only increased my anguish.
I adjusted my blazer again, pulling the fabric up to try to cover as much as possible, and I kept looking around, trying to look unconcerned, but the discomfort only increased. The people around me were impatient, and I felt sporadic looks being thrown at me. Maybe it was just stuff in my head, but it seemed like everyone could see what was going on. "Be rational, Suzan", I said to myself, but the tension didn't let me think clearly.
That's when I began to notice something strange. As I moved to try to adjust, I felt a strange lightness in the lower part of my body. At first I didn't understand what was happening, but a cold sensation ran through my legs. I looked down in horror, and I noticed that my underwear was slipping, gently sliding down my skin to my ankles.
My heart stopped for a second. I felt the fabric slide faster and faster down my thighs and then down my knees, until it finally piled up on my ankles. At first, I didn't believe what was happening. How could this have happened? And why now? It was then that I remembered the pull my skirt had suffered when leaving the Uber. The force of the impact had probably compromised the seam of my underwear, but I, distracted by the incessant adjustments, hadn't realized that it was completely unraveling.
The feeling of the fabric sliding down my legs was terrifying, and to make matters worse, my panties were wet, and I knew exactly why, because my body, for some strange and inexplicable reason, had reacted to that situation in a completely uncontrollable way, and now here I was, with the most intimate and embarrassing evidence of my own desire resting on my feet.
I was paralyzed. I stared for a few seconds at the soaked panties on my feet in disbelief and shock. "This can't be happening", I thought, completely stunned. The world seemed to stop for a moment, and I couldn't think of anything but how to get rid of that piece of clothing before anyone noticed. The panic was so intense that it almost made me scream, but somehow I managed to control myself.
Without a second thought, in an almost automatic reflex, I kicked my panties under the butcher's counter. The piece slid across the floor, disappearing under the meat counter like a sheet of paper blown by the wind. My breathing was quickened, my face burned with shame, and I felt that at any moment I would collapse right there.
The relief of getting rid of my panties was instantaneous, but at the same time, a new wave of despair came over me. Now I was completely naked underneath my blazer and shirt. The only thing that separated me from the total public scandal was that thin layer of fabric, which clearly wasn't enough. The fear of being discovered intensified, but at the same time, something deeply strange was stirring in me. The adrenaline was making me feel alive in a way that I didn't fully understand.
I looked around, trying to make sure no one had noticed. People seemed to be focused on their own concerns - most still impatient with the barely moving queue. It seemed that my little disaster had gone unnoticed, at least until that moment. But that didn't calm me down. I knew that I was on the verge of something irreversible.
The moisture that used to be trapped in my underwear now made me feel even more vulnerable. The fact that I had absolutely nothing under my blazer was a thought that refused to leave my head. I tried to concentrate, breathe deeply and calm myself, but it seemed impossible. Every move I made, I felt the cold wind from the supermarket air-conditioning beating directly on my bare legs, constantly reminding me that I was at the mercy of any more attentive gaze.
The whispers that I had previously been sure were a figment of my imagination now seemed more real. I felt some people staring at me, and no matter how much I tried to ignore it, the panic only grew. Every second there seemed like an eternity. My thoughts became a confusion of anxiety, shame and a strange, almost disturbing excitement. My body was betraying me in every way possible, and I couldn't help it.
It was an endless five minutes. The line moved forward a little bit, but I could hardly pay attention. My mind was totally focused on the fact that I was wearing nothing but that short blazer. The simple act of walking or moving my arms seemed enough to reveal everything, and the idea of being discovered in that state terrified me. And deep down, in a dark corner of my mind, that very idea caused an unexpected reaction.
Finally, the line moved again, but for me, there was no relief. I was completely exposed, struggling to maintain an appearance of normalcy while inside everything was falling apart. Every time I looked around, the fear of being noticed became more real, and the thought that somehow I might be enjoying that sense of danger only made everything more confusing.
The line seemed to go on and on, and with each passing minute, I became more and more distressed. The feeling of being exposed, even if only partially covered by my blazer, made me sweat coldly. I tried my best to look normal, constantly adjusting my clothes, pulling the fabric, crossing my legs. I knew that with every movement, I could end up revealing more than I wanted. The thought of being discovered in this partially naked state was unbearable, and at the same time, I felt a strange mixture of adrenaline and shame, as if I was in a nightmare from which I could not wake up.
Finally, after more time than I could bear, I arrived at the butcher's counter. The waitress, a woman with a tired face and an impassioned expression, asked me what I wanted. I stammered a little, trying to seem focused, but my thoughts were a thousand. I ordered cuts of meat for the month, trying to sound as calm as possible. She packaged everything without asking questions, and I thanked her in haste, eager to get out of there as quickly as possible.
With the meat in the trolley, I walked toward the cleaning products area, my heart still pounding, and the feeling of discomfort was not leaving me. I had just escaped a disaster in the slaughterhouse, but I still felt that at any moment something could go wrong again. And I was right.
I got to the sour cream shelf, and of course, my favorite sour cream was in the worst possible place: on the last shelf, almost at the top. I looked at the shelf, then at myself, and I immediately realized the problem. To get the sour cream, I would have to stretch, raise my arms, and with that, probably expose the entire back of my body. The blazer wasn't long enough to completely cover my buttocks, and any more abrupt movement could make the situation even more obvious. There was no way. I was trapped.
And I looked around, trying to think of a solution, and the hallway wasn't empty, and I knew that if I tried to grab the softener at that moment, I would end up getting even more attention, and I took a deep breath, trying not to panic, and I had to wait, there was no other option, and I decided to pretend that I was interested in other products by reading random labels and moving slowly down the hallway, trying to buy time until the softener was empty.
The minutes passed slowly. Every now and then, I would look at the shelf, hoping that the hallway would be empty, but there were still a few people around. I tried to keep calm, but every second there made me more anxious. The worst thing was that the longer I stood in that hallway, the more attention I got.
Some people walked past me, looked at me discreetly, and I could feel their eyes stuck in my back. They knew there was something strange about me. It wasn't hard to tell. My movements were tense, my posture was rigid, and I tried my best to hide what was happening. A lady walked by me, her eyes curiously wandering through my clothes, and I almost froze. She didn't say anything, but the look of concern on her face said it all. She knew. She knew there was something wrong, but she didn't comment.
Another person, a middle-aged man, came down the hallway and stopped a few feet away from me, and he looked at me for a few seconds, probably trying to understand why I was standing there stirring up the cleaning products without actually picking up anything. His eyes briefly went down to my legs, and I felt a heat wave rise up my face. He also noticed. Again, no one said anything directly, but the silence was deafening. Everyone knew.
I moved restlessly, trying to look busy, but actually I was in complete despair. Every second that passed, it seemed that I was more exposed. Every move I made, no matter how small, seemed to attract more curious glances, and the idea that everyone there could perceive my partial nudity made me want to run out. But at the same time I felt my thighs wet with my excitement, which increased with my pubic hair brushing against my shirt and blazer.
Finally, after about 10 minutes of endless waiting, the hall began to empty. The people who were there began to disperse, and for a brief moment, I was alone. I looked around, making sure no one else was around, and I decided that this was my chance. I needed to grab the softener now, before anyone else showed up.
I walked up to the shelf, looking around one more time to make sure no one was watching. My heart was pounding, and my hands were shaking slightly as I prepared to pick up the product. I knew that stretching out risked exposing everything. The blazer was nowhere near enough to cover my legs and buttocks, and the idea that someone could appear at any moment completely panicked me.
And I took a deep breath, and I stretched myself on the soles of my feet, trying to get the softener with as little exposure as possible, and as I stretched, I could feel the fabric of the blazer rising slightly, and the feeling of being totally vulnerable overwhelmed me, and my fingers finally touched the softener, and with a quick tug, I was able to grab it, and for a second, I felt a tremendous relief. I had done it.
I put the softener in the cart, trying to act as naturally as possible, but my body was still shaking. I just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible, finish my shopping and go home, where I would finally be safe from any prying eyes or suspicion. The next few hours at the market would be long, but at least I had overcome that little nightmare. Or at least that's what I hoped.
I looked at the watch on my wrist, trying to disguise how uncomfortable I was still with the situation. Time seemed to drag on. I had been in the market for about three hours, and every second seemed like an eternity. The tension in my body was constant, my muscles were stiff, and the feeling of exposure made me uneasy, even though I was now less surrounded by curious looks.
With the softener finally in the cart, I concentrated on picking up the rest of the items on my list. Still missing were some personal hygiene products, basic foods, and some things I wanted to keep the house organized. I moved quickly through the corridors, picking up each item carefully, but still feeling the weight of every look that might be judging me. I was aware of every movement, trying my best to maintain a posture that would disguise the fact that there was nothing else but the blazer covering my lower body. Every adjustment in the fabric seemed useless; it was as if at any moment someone would notice that underneath that elegant little suit, I was almost naked.
As I picked up the hygiene products, I noticed how the feeling of being watched began to fade, perhaps because I had been there so long that the people around me had lost interest, or perhaps, by sheer luck, no one had really noticed how incomplete my outfit was, but the truth is that even with this small relief, the anguish continued, and my mind kept creating even more embarrassing scenarios than the current one.
I went through the food aisles quickly, picking up rice, beans, pasta and other essentials, and when I finally got to the last section, where I needed to pick up the missing cleaning products, I took a deep breath. The mission was almost complete. I had managed to survive that market with as little exposure as possible, at least so far.
As I walked to the boxes, I felt a wave of relief. The lines were surprisingly fast, and I hardly had to wait to be answered. The counter seemed like a kind of protection; as I approached, I felt that the counter between me and the box offered me a small comfort zone. The box, a young woman with brown hair stuck to a ponytail, seemed oblivious to everything. She scanned the products one by one, without even raising her eyes to look at me. Another time, I could have been annoyed by the lack of interaction, but today, it was all I needed. The less attention she gave me, the better.
As she passed the items, I felt a slight tension in the air. The nervousness was still there, but I knew I was about to get out of there. Finally, when she finished scanning everything, she presented the final amount. I took out my card and paid, trying to act as naturally as possible. I smiled at her, a nervous smile, but the cashier seemed more concerned about the next customer than me. Thank God.
With the groceries paid and the bags packed, I took a deep breath, grabbed my bags, and headed out. The parking lot was right in front of me, and I knew I had to call an Uber. It wasn't the first time I'd bought so many things, and I already had a certain strategy in mind: I'd call an Uber, put the bags in the trunk, and be home in minutes. But at the time, I didn't count on the recent reluctance of Uber drivers to pick up passengers from supermarkets.
I opened the app, and I started trying to call a car, and after a few minutes, the "Wanted drivers" notification didn't seem to go off the screen, and I clicked, and I tried again, and nothing, and every time I tried, I got more frustrated, and the drivers accepted, and they realized it was a race with shopping, and they canceled, and this was the third time this had happened in less than 15 minutes, and I stood there looking at the app as if I could somehow get a driver to accept the race, but nothing worked.
The bags on the floor next to me made me even more uncomfortable. I had to get out of there. The market was starting to empty, and I knew that if I stayed there any longer, my situation could become even more embarrassing. With no other option, I closed the Uber app and decided that a taxi would be my best alternative.
I walked to the nearest taxi rank, which was next to the parking lot. There was only one taxi parked there, and the driver, a man in his fifties, already looked closed-faced. I sighed, but decided I had no choice. I approached the taxi with my bags, and he didn't even mention helping me. Instead, he looked at me with an impatient expression.
"Where are you going?" he asked, not very politely.
I quickly explained that I needed to go to my apartment near Mariana Village, and he shook his head abruptly, agreeing with a grunt. I went to the back of the car, waiting for him to open the trunk so that I could put my bags in. To my surprise, he turned to me, folded his arms, and said in a rude tone:
I don't put groceries in my trunk, if you want to take it, put it in the back seat.
I was shocked for a moment, unable to believe what he was saying. The bags were too many, and they would not fit in the back seat in an organized way. Not to mention that I would have to put everything by myself, while he stood there, looking at me impatiently. My face burned with shame, both for the situation with the taxi driver and the way I was dressed. Or rather, the way I was not dressed.
I looked at the trunk of the taxi, which was still closed, and then at the driver. He didn't even move to help me. It was clear that he was not at all willing to make things easy for me. I didn't know if it was a matter of bad mood or if he simply didn't like to catch customers with groceries. Whatever the reason, I found myself trapped in this absurd situation.
As I stood there thinking about how to solve the problem, I felt my nerves running high. I didn't want to argue with the man, but at the same time, I didn't have the strength to deal with further complications. After all the tension in the market, and now with the grumpy taxi driver, I was on the verge of losing control.
I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm, and there was no point in arguing with him, and I just wanted to get home, so I picked up one of the bags, which was lighter, and I put it in the back seat, and then I picked up another, which was heavier, and I did the same thing, and with each movement, I felt the blazer go up a little bit more, threatening to reveal more of my body, and my movements were careful, almost choreographed, to make sure I didn't expose myself more than I had already done.
As I continued to carry the bags to the back seat, I could feel the taxi driver's eyes on me. He was impatient, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, but at the same time, his eyes seemed to analyze me in an uncomfortable way. I knew he had noticed something wrong. It wasn't hard to tell. I was practically naked from the waist down, and as much as the blazer covered one part, the other was at the mercy of more attentive glances.
After putting the last bag in the car, I closed the back seat door and went to the front door, preparing to enter. The taxi driver finally unlocked the door, and I sat in the passenger seat, trying to act as if everything was normal. He didn't say a word as he started the car and started driving. I, on the other hand, was in absolute silence, hoping that this race would end soon.
As the car drove through the streets of São Paulo, my mind was still focused on the market incident, my situation, and the embarrassment that seemed to follow me every step of the way. The taxi driver remained silent, but I felt that he knew. He knew that something was wrong, and that only increased my anxiety. Fortunately he didn't comment, he just stared at my naked thighs a few times, but discreetly, I was afraid that my excitement would end up marking his seat with my fluids, but I managed to keep my blazer underneath to avoid this further embarrassment.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, we arrived at my building, and I paid the fare, thanked her quickly, and got out of the cab, eager to end that endless day, and the bags now seemed heavier than ever, but all I wanted to do was go inside and hide from the world for a while.
As soon as I walked through the gate and into the elevator, I let out a long sigh of relief.
No reaction yet.
