These events occur immediately after the end of chapter 2. Chapter 3 - The elevator I was almost home, which should have reassured me, but as I got into the elevator, my relief was interrupted. I had just arrived with my groceries, the market situation was still fresh in my mind, and the idea of being practically without my skirt was already making me nervous. Fortunately, the elevator was empty, and the doorman Oswaldo was not at the reception. I thought this would be my chance to climb up in peace without anyone noticing me. But as soon as the door was about to close, it opened again, someone came running and grabbed it, and four strong men came in carrying boxes. They were sweaty, wearing overalls, uniforms from some moving company, and they were talking to each other very quickly, and the space that used to feel like my sanctuary now felt cramped, and I felt uncomfortable with their presence, and they stared at me for a moment, not inappropriately, but just enough to make me feel even more exposed than I already was, and I was wearing only my shirt and blazer, which fortunately covered the essentials, but it was impossible to ignore the feeling of vulnerability. The men continued to talk, unconcerned, and although they didn't pay much attention to me, my thoughts were out of control. What if they knew I was without a skirt? What if they realized I was practically naked from the waist down? Anxiety began to consume me. I tried to disguise myself by staying as still as possible, while my hands automatically adjusted the blazer, pulling it down slightly, trying to cover more than it really could. The tension inside me was growing every second. It wasn't about the looks they were actually throwing at me, but about the idea that I could be "discovered". My heart was racing, and I felt my face start to heat up. It was like my whole body was betraying me, amplifying that feeling of exposure. The elevator seemed smaller by the second, and I couldn't stop thinking about what might happen if the reality of my situation was perceived by them. I knew that my imagination was exaggerating, but it was difficult to control, and they were laughing at each other, joking about the heavy work of carrying furniture, and my mind began to imagine the worst: What if somehow they noticed how vulnerable I was and made some comment? The fear of being seen in that almost ridiculous condition, without my skirt, mixed with a physical discomfort that I couldn't explain, as if my body was reacting to the situation in a way that I myself didn't understand. I felt an unexplainable excitement when I imagined them noticing my partial nakedness, grabbing my arms, tearing open my blazer, removing what was left of my dignity, my nipples stiffened instantly, rubbing against the thin fabric of my blouse, which made me even more excited, my fear now was that they would notice how wet I was, because I could be running down my thighs. In my head they were saying absurd things, as if I was a real porn actress and was there making a scene, it seemed that they were about to open their overalls and put me on my knees in the middle of them, so I, who always abhorred this image of women as a sexual object. I tried to push my thoughts away, because these were just ordinary, working men who had probably never noticed me except for a simple "good afternoon", but at the same time, my brain insisted on creating scenarios, and I pictured myself standing there in the middle of them, trying to hold on to the ends of my blazer to cover more while they looked at me and made assumptions. Their conversation was still casual, but I was completely trapped in my own head. "If they knew"... I repeated a voice in my head. Maybe if I was in my skirt, this situation wouldn't have the same impact. But somehow not being fully clothed in that situation changed everything. I felt vulnerable, like I was being watched more intensely than I really was. Finally, the elevator stopped on the third floor. They were getting ready to leave, and I was more rigid than ever, trying to look indifferent, as if nothing was wrong. They left one by one, but not without first greeting me with a quick "good afternoon" again. I whispered a "good afternoon" back, trying not to show any sign of nervousness. Although it was a simple gesture of politeness, I felt as if I was under the microscope, as if they had seen something that I was trying so desperately to hide. The elevator finally came back up. I sighed with relief, alone again. The third floor was behind me, and now I had only one more flight of stairs to worry about. But my thoughts wouldn't leave me alone. My mind was confused, torn between fear and relief, between discomfort and a strange feeling that something had changed inside me. It was as if, suddenly, that feeling of being exposed was more than just a passing situation. As if there was something deeper there, something I wasn't ready to confront. I got to the fourth floor, and I got out of the elevator, trying to regain control of my thoughts, and everything was fine now, and I was safe, finally home, and away from prying eyes or the possibility of being discovered, but the echo of that experience still resonated within me. The elevator was finally going up to the fourth floor, and I was breathing more deeply, trying to calm down after the unexpected interaction with the men who had boarded the ground floor, even though everything had been superficial -- just looks and formal greetings -- something inside me was changing. There was a tension in the air, something I couldn't shake, as if I was being tested by the situation. My hands were still instinctively pulling my blazer down, trying to cover as much as possible, even though I knew it wasn't long enough for that. Every movement seemed to highlight the vulnerability of my situation even more. Even without them having said anything inappropriate, their looks - that brief scan from top to bottom - seemed to instill in me a feeling of exposure that I couldn't ignore. I was aware of every detail: the fabric of the blazer rubbing against my skin, the lack of any other piece that could protect me from that uncomfortable feeling. It was a constant internal conflict. On the one hand, the shame of being in that situation, so exposed and at the same time disguised. On the other hand, a strange excitement -- not of a physical desire, but of being in a situation so out of my control. It was as if my body was reacting in ways that my mind did not approve of. As if something inside of me was struggling to free itself. The elevator went up another floor, and I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to push away the tension. Why did my mind insist on creating these scenarios? Maybe it was the result of so many years in which I stayed focused exclusively on my studies and work. Maybe now that I was beginning to live my adult life, these repressed sensations were emerging in unexpected ways. The men left on the third floor, and as soon as the doors closed, an involuntary sigh escaped my lips. I was alone again, but the tension still pulsated inside me. It wasn't as if anything physical had happened, but the idea of being so close to being discovered, the possibility that someone could understand my situation, made everything more intense. My mind went back to those looks they gave me, the way that for a brief moment I felt naked, even partially covered, and if they had known that I was actually without my skirt, would they have acted differently? Would there have been any comment? And how would I have reacted? Those thoughts made me anxious, but at the same time, there was a part of me that couldn't shake them off. It was as if I was being pulled between two extremes: the desire to be invisible, to be unnoticed, and the strange excitement of being so exposed, so vulnerable. I didn't want these feelings, but they were there, like an uncomfortable, growing presence. I could feel the warmth rising up my face, the familiar feeling of embarrassment that for some reason seemed impossible to ignore. Finally, the elevator reached the fourth floor. The doors opened, and I hurried out, my heart still racing, but now with a feeling of relief. Each step toward my apartment seemed heavier, as if that tension did not want to leave me. I entered the apartment, shut the door behind me, and let out a long sigh. I was finally safe. Whatever had happened down there, whether real or just a figment of my imagination, was now in the past. But no matter how much I wanted to push those thoughts away, they still hovered in the air, making me uneasy. I sat on the couch, still trying to process what had happened, and it was more than just the embarrassment of being topless; it was the feeling of being seen in a way that I wasn't used to, as if the version of myself that I had always controlled was beginning to unravel, revealing something that I wasn't ready to confront. What was happening to me? Maybe it was the stress of the new job, or the fact that my life for so long had been devoted exclusively to study and work, or maybe I was finally coming into contact with parts of myself that I had always repressed, and there was something liberating but also terrifying about admitting that these feelings were there, growing, even though I didn't know what to do with them. It was getting late, and I got up to start organizing my groceries, and the normal routine was supposed to help me get back to normal, but the truth was that nothing seemed normal now, and what had previously seemed like a simple situation, like taking the elevator, was now carrying an emotional burden that I wasn't ready to face.
