The "Quarrel" of the Old Friends - Part I
Another hot, dry day. That air that something was missing at work and at the same time that everything went as expected. Nothing scheduled for later and no expectation around the night being better than the day was. I always forget how long it takes to get home after the paperwork. Exhausted and without perspective.
I walked up the stairs, and when I opened the door to my apartment, I couldn't get inside without first saying goodbye to the neighbor at the end of the hall. She's always there, no matter what time I arrive, she even looks like a lookout. I put my things on the couch and walk a few meters to my bathroom, I just wanted a bath and nothing else.
As the darkness invades the space announcing the night, it seems to bring a cold. I feel in the desert, especially because the weather always seems to be more freezing when the air is dry. I count the days and the hours to get the flu or some other respiratory problem because of this. It is always like this, unfortunately.
I come out of the bathroom after the few minutes that seemed like hours with the absurd change of scenery between light and darkness that had formed in that late afternoon and early evening, I run a few more meters to my room in search of my pajamas, a baggy, wide and not at all erotic outfit composed of a T-shirt about three or four sizes larger than the one I wear and a sweater pants, in addition to the shorts type underwear, after all, what would I be without the touch of that cute fabric on my parts.
I take my work stuff off the couch, I put it in a more organized way, and I pour myself into watching a little bit of TV, snooping through channels one, two, three, and, clearly, the day was wanting to end as one of the most melodramatic I could remember. Lying, last week and the other one too, I always had one of those days to show that something was wrong. But that's okay. I had been living alone for a couple of years, I had my job, I was specializing, what more could I want?
Suddenly, someone knocked on my door. Laziness seemed to take over me, a form of laziness that seemed not to exist before the first knock. In a few seconds, I heard more knocks. I had to go to the door. So I asked who it was, and I heard a "it's me", on the other side who didn't tell me who it could be. The only thing I was sure of was that it was a man. I didn't care about anything and just opened the door. As soon as I saw him, my heart stopped, it was "Jota", a guy who worked next to the company I work for and who had asked me out for the third time. I had completely forgotten.
"Hi Laura, how are you?" "I didn't think I'd come so early this time", he said, completely without humour.
Jota was a lot of fun. We met by chance, kind of by accident. It's one of those situations that just happens. After a fun first date, we ended up going out a second time and ended up having sex inside my apartment. I didn't like that because it ended the secrecy around my apartment. I hated visitors.
And no offense to Jota, but after that fling, something seemed to have ended the way it had started. I didn't see any future in us and I just wanted to fuck someone cool. And he clearly wanted to get in and have fun. It seemed like a great deal until he asked me out again. I agreed not to be offensive, but the spirit wasn't that great.
Now, with him at the door, realizing that I hadn't remembered the date, I felt like such a girl, how could I forget?
- Hi Jota, the truth is that I just forgot. I arrived with a full head and did not remember. But wait here for a second I prepare and we go out, okay? - I spoke in a friendly tone, but not so excited.
- It's all right, he said.
Before he came in to wait for me, I closed the door of the apartment and made him wait outside. It was only after I did that that I noticed how I had been kind of unintentionally. But I didn't back down, I simply sped up my cleaning. In about five or six minutes I was ready in jeans, a blouse, a coat and a nice-smelling perfume. As soon as I opened the door I saw him a little upset, probably because he had taken the door lock in his face, but that soon changed with my mood a little better.
"Wow, you look beautiful", he said, coming to steal a stamp from me, I decided to return the apology by the closed door.
We went down to his car, and he seemed quite happy to take a ride with me in the seat next to him, much more than I did, but I didn't get that out of my head, so we went to a bar, which wasn't very crowded, and we went to a table in the corner, and Jota decided to talk about something that would cheer me up, as he always did, but he wasn't finding the way that he had found so easily.
Moments later, another man approached from behind him, struggling to remember where he had met him and then poked him and then shouted:
It's you!
He looked back and it was clear that it was his best friend. A tall, strong man with a charming smile. Charming even too. He was with two other men who stood near the counter. They talked a little, Jota introduced me and he shook my hand and then kissed her. The problem with all this is that if before he seemed not to have noticed me, his gaze simply did not leave me after this act and that would be a problem. If he called me William.
After a little more conversation, he returned to his initial friends and Jota decided to tell how special Guilherme was. He told about his adventures at school, talked about his competence and went so far as to say that it was always difficult to go out with him because girls always ended up being caught by Gui. I laughed and said that it was silly and he also commented that before going out with any woman, the two of them tried to win her over, but he always lost. Clearly he felt inferior to the friend, because I simply went on to praise him, without even asking about it. It was not the Jota I knew.
I watched William from the table, curious, and as soon as he noticed that, I automatically understood why Jota was so close to his friend. He had an attitude and didn't seem to care about getting what he wanted, and Jota was slower. The complicated thing about it is that it seemed that my simple look was enough to lure him into the old battle of friends. But hey, I had already dated Jota, and although I had nothing to do with him, I was technically his wife at that moment. I decided not to give my friend wings anymore. I didn't want to go out with his friend. Too late.
Guilherme came back and offered us something to drink. He asked to stay with us and, Jota, because he had not noticed what I had seen a long time ago, simply let the friend approach. Gui brought up the subject about us, where we met and it was clear that he wanted to know if I was a girlfriend or wife of the friend, something that perhaps avoided the dispute.
"We're getting to know each other, I think he's very good for me", I replied, putting my hand on Jota's head and staring at him, trying to push his friend away.
"Yes, we've been going out recently. She works in a shop near mine. It's all right that she forgot about today's meeting, but she's here with me and we'll surely enjoy the evening". replied Jota, with me wanting to slap her for her bad speech.
Guilherme changed the subject. He knew the subjects of interest of Jota and quickly made him forget about my presence. If before I was on top of Jota, to try to drive away the friend, Jota himself got excited about Gui and I stayed on the sidelines. At one point I even said that I was going to the bathroom, go out, I took the opportunity to see more details of the bar. I took a while on this, when I saw a cool wine cellar on the other side. I returned and noticed that he had not noticed anything. It was better to lie at home.
I decided to ask for something to eat, I tried to ask what Jota wanted and I was simply ignored. Guilherme, noticing this, took the opportunity to speak to ask for a special snack from the house and even advised me to avoid my request to try this one, because I would not regret it.
- How do you know I'll like it?
"I noticed that you went for a walk near the cellar, if you like wine, you'll like this dish", William replied.
- He's seeing Laura, he's a very nice guy.
He was talking with the friend and probing where I could be at the same time, in a sneaky way. I asked what he advised most for the challenge. I wanted to tell him that he was wrong. But, heaven, what a divine dish. It was seafood with a spice of the house. And, for a change, next to a wine, also indicated by him, made everything wonderful. Now yes the meeting was getting good, but it was not with Jota.
I started to eat and noticed the attitude of Guilherme. He really knew how to deceive his friend by showing interest in what he was talking about and at the same time, he probed me, did my reading and, without fear, risked pointing something out, commenting something about me. Things that were not so in the face to the friend, but that I had already noticed a long time ago. That man would do whatever he wanted and would still be greeted by everyone. He should have slept with hundreds of women. He was persistent and also very convinced, but not the type that becomes boring, it was a natural thing, the type that is ignored, he will show his value in an intelligent way.
He knew absolutely everything that went on at the table, but he didn't put himself in a position where he understood everything, on the contrary, he convinced me that I was always right, or the friend, and I quickly felt some lines of ventriloquism creating a perfect plot to take the script where he wanted it to go, and that might not be the way that I or his friend expected it to go.
And, of course, I'll tell you about that later.
